ASK-Y Meeting Minutes: 5/23/05

Advocacy Day Feedback: overview from Erin & discussion

Folks suggested sending out a "How to set up legislator appointments" guide to agencies. Also, to have agencies let us know their appointment schedule. An idea was floated to go down again after a couple of weeks with youth who had strong stories that really supported whatever legislation/changes we were backing.

Off Season Issues

General talk about keeping our eyes and ears open about budget cuts in general, and try to get a better undestanding of what was going on in order to respond in a timely manner.

Community Meetings

Talked a bit about how we all go to various monthly meetings, and to be sure to share information about ASK-Y as well as bring pertinent info back.

ID issues

ID troubles came up again. We talked about creating two flyers with "tips for getting ID", one geared towards service providers, the other geared towards youth. A foster mother at the meeting described her challenges getting her foster child's ID papers from DSHS. People wondered about the need for DSHS to have one main contact person to track down foster kids' documents and paperwork. It took her months to get his birth certificate.

Common Transitional Housing Application

Curtis suggested that we come up with a one page "common" transitional housing application. Current programs all have different, lengthy applications. We discussed getting input/interest check from the main agencies to determine if they would be open this at all.
