The Mockingbird Family Model

(Formerly known as the Mockingbird Foster Family Constellation Project)

Innovative Model of Care

The current system of care has serious shortcomings that must be addressed through creative approaches. Moving children multiple times from one foster home to another, as well as splitting up sibling sets, has proven devastating to child and adolescent development.

Objective

To pilot test, refine and improve a foster family pilot project in which cohorts of 4 to 6 families work closely with a central foster or group care center, as part of a coordinated service network, that gives foster parents needed respite, and keeps foster children and youth closely connected to siblings, peers, and resources.
